Visiting the YMCA

The YMCA is very present in the Phoenix area.  The Valley of the Sun YMCA, as they call it, is one of the oldest nonprofits in the state of Arizona, born before Arizona became a state. They serve over 100,000 families and are located in 18 communities. There are four locations in Scottsdale alone.

Paradise Valley is closest to us so it becomes our 'home' YMCA.  Entering the building I can see the same value based openness that we experience back in Brainerd.  In a couple of minutes they have us in their computer and we are good to go.

I checked out the class schedule; some classes look familiar and some not so much.  Hmmm, DEFEND, looks interesting.

Originally called Group Fight, this cardio workout using mixed marshal arts choreographed to high energy music.  Five minutes in, I am sweating and hooked.   Love this!  The instructor is AWESOME!

Next is something they call Barre.  Does not take me long to figure out that they are talking about ballet bar.  OK, I get it.

Gentle Yoga and a nice shower.  Normal day at the Y.  So nice.  Great facility, great instructors.  We will be back.
